GoSee prizes include Australian world first Eco-pack premium Margaret River wines

Cheer Pack fits life on the move on land and sea

GoSee TravelSmart prizes for members who signed up in April include eco-packaged 'folding bottles' of quality Western Australian wine.

It adds a new diamension to responsible drinking and the Aussie invented CheerPack holds the same volume of Western Australia's quality Margaret River wine as a standard bottle.

In a series of pluses for Recreational Vehicle owners, travellers and boaties a CheerPack does not have the sometimes shattering downside of glass.

It is much lighter the package actually weighs 30 grams empty and when full about 780g and it does not need a corkscrew.

CheerPack can be resealed.

It pours well, is lightweight compared to glass, easy to pack in a Recreational Vehicle (on land and water) and it is better for the environment when it is time to bin it.

The wines are quality and good value.

Chief Winemaker at Palandri Sarah Siddons says the CheerPack 2005 Baldivis Chardonnay  is - "fruit-filled with fresh melon and nutty flavours and just a hint of creaminess".  It will cellar from one to three years. It makes great friends with seafood and chicken and salad dishes. The wine has great depth and well integrated French oak character.

The Chardonnay was sourced from premium WA regions including Great Southern and Margaret River.

The CheerPack Baldivis Estate 2004 Cabernet Merlot - "the key ingredients of the Baldivis Estate Merlot are its fullness and rich flavor combined with a satin smooth finish", she says.

The wine matured in a mixture of French and American Oak for 12 months. It is a worthy Western Australian companion for tomato based pastas or barbecued meat dishes.

And there is also a Baldivis Estate 2003 Shiraz in CheerPack.

Sarah says the nose shows aromas of dark berry fruit and spicy notes. Spice dominates with jammy fruit undertones. The wine has  great length and a well-rounded finish, she says.

This Western Australian  does well with roasted rack of lamb or steak with pepper sauce Sarah says.

The 2003 vintage was an excellent year for Baldivis reds. There was a mild to warm summer and the fruit had plenty of time to reach full flavour intensity.

The  wine matured in a  mixture of American oak for 14 months which results in its good length, complexity and integrated palate.

Sarah was winemaker at Baldivis Estate and joined Palandri when it acquired Baldivis in 2000.

"South Western Australia is a spectacular place to make wine and Margaret River and Frankland River are two of Australia's best cool climate growing regions", Sarah said.

In the heart of the Margaret River Region Palandri Wines is supported by Western Australia's biggest single stand-alone vineyard in the Frankland River area.

Palandri's environmentally friendly move makes them the first wine producer in the world to use fully recyclable and resealable plastic alumuminium foil packages to replace glass.

So the CheerPack not only suits modern on-the-move lifestyles but it reduces waste and addresses environmental issues too.

Last November Palandri shipped 3500 cases of Margaret River wine in 750-millilitre Cheer Packs made in Adelaide by Soft Pack Australia to Canada.

The Canadian response is positive and Palandri is now expanding the international market for the CheerPack product.

"We chose Canada because it has strict environmental policy on wine packaging as a result of the country's landfill problem," Sarah Siddons said.

Soft Pack Australia General Manager Allan David says CheerPack is ideal when glass is an issue and space is limited. It is not a replacement for bottling but an environmentally responsible option.

CheerPack has a big practical plus for exporters too. Use of the pack can create space for up to 600 extra cases of wine per shipping container.

Considerable weight is saved. For example a carton of bottled wine weighs 16-19kgs while a carton of CheerPack is 9.8kgs.

Palandri winemaker Ben Roodhouse says the CheerPack helps keep Australia in front in the world wine market.

"Our industry needs to continue to be innovative and products like this always help," he said.
